My brain has become wormhole-like, a never ending jump from lives past to present, to yesterday, tomorrow, and somewhere in between. I cant' even recall which albums came out this year or last, or shit - 1970 for all that I've cared this year. However, I know there have been some kick ass albums to come out this year - I just can't keep them all straight. So, instead of years past when I could recall, almost by week, which albums surfaced on whichever Tuesday of the month (thanks to the industry I was in), I leave you with Pitchfork's Top 50 of 2008. Go do the world a favor and buy a record form a local music shop - you'll feel warm and fuzzy and so will the shop owner.
Synergistic Wisdom of Life Paths
I'm so glad that Todd Selby did a piece on Guy Blakeslee (of the band Entrance) and Maximilla Lukacs (film maker). Their place is so earthy and great.

Lights, Camera, Action! P.S. I love My Ladies
What Were You Doing in 1990?
Well, Laura Marling was busy being born. She's pretty sweet. She's like 1 part Joni Mitchell and 1 part Chan Marshall and 1 part her own. I'm such a sucker for a simple riff. She makes me want some bangs too; well, that and my apparent onset of adult acne.
SHUT UP!
Black and Cream
Jody was telling me that she had this dream of a long cream cardigan, a big bow around her waist, and the rest black. I conjured this up around all that.

I love coming across old photos that you passed by before and, for some reason, now adore. Like the one above.
Limi Tell You Something
I really love Limi Feu's Spring '09 Collection. Remember the hair headphones? Yeah - that was her too.

Six Random Things
Mrs. Brown tagged me up to answer this little ditty - so here goes.
- I HATE the long hallway awkward stare-down. I work in an office with some desperately long halls and I hate that awkward do-i-look-do-i-smile-head-down-push-on feeling when approaching someone in the hallway. Hate it.
- I pretty much NEVER wear a seat-belt. Unless someone else is driving and they give me reason to be concerned with my safety. And, in addition, I know they have probably saved many lives, but I hate the idea of car seats. I never had one and here I am. However, I'm certain that if I had kids they'd be strapped into a padded chamber strong enough to withstand a nuclear blast in the car.
- I really detest the whole "my little dog is my accessory" bullshit. Not all dogs are created equal these days. Why can your goopey-eyed, ribbon and sweater toting, curly haired puggle ride on the fucking plane and I can't buy my lovely dog a seat? NO, my "real dog" has to ride an undetermined life or death travel experience in the luggage section probably thrown in beside your louis vuitton fucking doggie diaper bag.*
- I love buying music from record shops. I will curse iTunes, Amazon, etc. Music has turned into background music everywhere. It doesn't seem like something people actually enjoy these days. Vinyl is the path to the heart and soul. I wrote something pertaining to this...I'll have to try and dig it up.
- I love having a cold face. Not the kind that leers and sneers, but a physical and literal cold face. I hate summer. I love winter. I love being bundled up and everythign is toasty besides a physical and literal cold face. Which goes along with loving all things winter. I love that I have a January birthday. However, that means, somewhere, below the equator, I have a summer loving doppelganger.
- Snoop Dogg's "Doggystyle" album is in my top 5 albums of all time.
ok, so i don't want this to be about all the things i detest...
*I really love all creatures, so I don't really hate little dogs, I just mostly detest the owners who carry that holier than thou attitude along with their little polly pocket dog. Also, I'm just jealous that Solo can't transform into a 5lb creature at the wink of an eye. So, I think the solution is to call little dogs something else. Equine has it right by classifying the smaller breeds as "PONY". There should be a small dog equivalent. Peace love and Wilderness.
Get Ultra Violent
I might be the most peace loving docile creature out there, but be comforted in knowing that I love this fight scene more than any other. Great novel, great film, amazing chair to head breakage.
Leave it to the State of Utah to Predict the Future
You know, religious beliefs set aside - Utah has got to have one of the highest concentrations of crazy in the nation. However, I suppose when the popular religion was founded by a desperate and destitute man with an entrepreneurial itch looking into stones that lead him to some gold plates. . . can you really blame the offshoots?

I love this piece by Hanako Narahira. I saw this on the UO blog and checked out her collection. I can't say I'm an all around fan, but I think her designs are innovated and quirky and I can see where this could go. Some of the designs are a little too applique or flowery for me. I am mostly drawn to the abstract geometric designs.

Girl Crush: Nieves Rebolledo Vila aka Bebé

Bebé is Spanish and she rules. This song always makes me feel like crying. Also, I was about to post the live version of the song below, but I didn't because the quality wasn't as good. However, I must note she is wearing a "Nunca Mais" shirt during her live performance. Nunca Mais is a movement of Galician (the furthest north-eastern state of Spain) peoples in response to a disaster that happened upon their gorgeous coast line. The Prestige was a Grecian oil tanker that sank in 2002 off the coast of Galicia, spilling enough oil to contaminate thousands of miles of coast line from Spain to France and almost killing the fishing industry that supports the states along the coast. I lived in Spain in 2004 and, believe me, the fight to end the governement's lack approach toward cleaning up and handling of the disaster was still in full force.
"More than eighty per cent of the tanker's 77,000 tons of fuel oil is now thought to have been spilled off Spain's north-west coast."
Holy shit.
Back to Bebé. She´s awesome.
Entertainment in the world of Blog

I stumbled upon a blog by this guy: Todd Seelie. Good stuff. he appears to be handy with the camera with a penchant for fun. He and his comrades have built a raft out of sheer bohemian ingenuity. This makes me smile.
The End of the World is Near
This is my 421st post and also an indication of my personal apocalypse. I think, today, I have become allergic to two things: hops and marijuana. Help. I love hoppy beers, Pale Ales being some of my favorites. Today, after a nice meal and 2.5 beers, my skin itched, my joints ached, and it felt like I wanted something to pull and stretch all of my limbs, also, my gums itched. I am attributing it to the hops in my beer because I have noticed (you know accidentally when that horrible person passed me (what I thought to be a tobacco cigarette) marijuana, I felt similar symptoms. Please, someone tell me that it's all just paranoia.
Happy Day

I hope everyone is enjoying their holiday. I am glad to have slept in and contrary to some, I am happy to be cooking as well. Today, my contribution for the day is a pumpkin/yam bake. It may or may not have been invented by yours truly, if I am wrong, please correct me. Like most all of my recipes, I have no measurements, just free will, street smarts, and a penchant for good food (thank you momma).
I think it's a good time to have discussions about our country and the manner in which food gets to the table. I know I hold on tight to my small (1/16) native american roots, but even that 1/16th is enough to have a sense of pride about myself and pride about this gorgeous landscape we reside in. I grew up in a town that removed its only gas station because it was discovered to be built upon an Indian burial ground. Topanga Canyon has been gas stationless ever since. Lesson: you never know where energies lie. Politics aside, it is undeniable that we live in one of the most beautiful, diverse, and enigmatic landscapes in the world. Our native american ancestors acknowledged this; they revered the land, prayed to natural gods - gods of the animal kingdom, gods of wind and fire and water. I feel it is important to embrace the natural world and invite its magic into our daily lives. Feel the wind and feel life. Forget about the systems (money, math, the 9-5, words, and football) we've created to make us feel more "human". My Thanksgiving Wish is for everyone to get natural, if even for a minute.
Pumpkin/Yam Bake:
1 can pure pumpkin
1 can of evaporated milk
4 yams
1 sweet potato
1/2 stick of butter sliced
Crushed pecans
Brown Sugar
Cinnamon
Nutmeg
Salt
Ginger powder
Cayenne Pepper
Vanilla Extract
(marshmallows if desired)
Preheat oven to 350
I halve and quarter the potatoes(<-----sorry stephanie)
place them and the butter slices into a corning dish
Mix pumpkin, milk, and spices in a separate bowl and pour over the potato mix
Scatter pecan atop and place in oven
about after 30 min or so, you can add the marshmallows if you so desire a sweet dish.
Probably about 45 minutes later - voila!
Me in the Day: A Response to Stephanie
So, Stephanie posted some high school photos of herself and they were true gems; true markers of a time that I, too, shared. Since I wasn't too big on the school thing, I don't really have much evidence that I was even there. I have since lost my yearbooks. This is the best representation I could get, given my limited resources.
Due to my reckless nature, I spent a great deal of time hooked up to machines:

On occasion, my mother made me take photos...I was approached to do a Jolly Rancher commercial and they wanted me to rollerblade. I said, "no thanks, I skateboard." That was pretty much the end of my acting career.

And when I decided to chop off the hair and my mom made sure I had a stylist finish it so I didn't totally ruin myself (whatever):
I did go to a school dance or two. Speaking of which, I wish Adam O'rourke would send me the pic of him lifting me up for the prom photo because I was on crutches. This is also the photo that demonstrates the time in every girl's life where they feel the need to dye their blonde hair black.
