iPAD? are you fucking serious? what a terrible name.

The much anticipated iSLATE would have been so much better.

Fucking Teeth

sexietime

Seriously, I've spoken out about my fear/hatred/bewilderment on the dentist. However, what the fuck is up with there being NO female dentists? If there are any, they're like an outcast breed. Help me find one. Or at least find me a dentist with compassion for dentistry, not money. I feel like every dentist secretly wants to be a reality star sipping mojitos poolside in palm springs.

This Will Be Our Year

sexietime

So, the 20th was my birthday. I tried to get a screen shot of my phone when I looked at it and it was 20:20 on January 20. But, like most things in life, it just didn't work out.

Yurt Don't Hurt 2010 was a success. I was so excited about it all that the unmentionable happened: I forgot my camera. I'll post photos when the buddies send them my way.

Seriously can't get enough of this song right now.

Bread & Butter

sexietime

OK, so, I'm stereotypically like a man, when it comes to skin care. I've used body lotion on my face for years (ok, until a few months ago, I switched to Clinique), I don't travel with skincare amenities, I go to sleep with make-up on; I'm terrible. I stumbled upon this company, Bread & Butter, lead by Brian Lau. The guy used to work for Aveda, Burts Bees, Dove, and some others. He hated them all. He hated the packaging waste, the harmful ingredients, and deceiving marketing tactics. I love him already. He split off on his own to create Bread & Butter. It's targeted for men due to their shaving sensitivities, but that sounds good to me too. Not that I shave my face, but, you know. All of the products are TSA approved and will carry-on an airplane. The company is very cradle-to-cradle efficient and that, I love. Also awesome, they ship seasonally, so you order a year's worth and they ship to you accordingly. Awesome. All of their packaging is waste reduced and recycled and recyclable. They also note that most cosmetic and lotion tubes are not recycled in North America. If you live in Canada, they cover that for you. They will arrange a pick-up and take them to a recycling center that will do good with it. I've never written so much about a face cream in my life. It must be something good.

Gallery Stroll

It was an okay stroll this month. I was pretty disappointed with what I saw until I went to Kayo Gallery. The little drawings by Wren Ross were nice and fun. I found the paintings to be forgettable, but fellow Utah graduate, Brian Patterson had some refreshing figurines, dolls, who-knows-whats, contorted, bent, stabbed through, etc, and then dipped in porcelain. Anyway, there were hundreds of these jumbled on a king's feast sized table. It was an impressive installation. It was nice to see someone doing something interesting, especially in a city filled with, seemingly, big fish in little ponds. I like to see people explore.

Thank the Heavens

sexietime

It has been so dingy and cold and smoggy and gross in the valley of salt. I am soooo happy it's going to snow all week. Happy birthday me.

Making for a Living

Made a scarf. I thought this was going to be a dress when I started; you never know. Hit me up if you want one. (however, i'm pretty sure 9 out of 10 bloggers knits/crochet these days).

WTF? R.I.P

sexietime

What the hell, sorry, I'm late to post, but Jay Reatard died on Wednesday. He made some kick ass garage/punk riffs. They're deeming it homicide, who the fuck knows, who the fuck cares, the guy rocked.

Since My Inundation of Cats

sexietime
beards & me, 1984

sexietime
beardsly, 1996

I was kitty sitting last week and then I went to Stephanie's house and she has some pretty awesome cats. Anyway, point being it stirred up some reminiscent memories of my favorite cat in the world, Beardsly. Beardsly must've been part wildcat. His tail, alone, was 2 feet long. He had wisps of fur on top of his ears, he weighed about 20lbs, his nose was as broad as a cougar's. He was dog-like. You would snap and he'd be in your lap, settled for hours. If you stared into his eyes he'd bite your nose; I learned that the hard way. My mom got 3 kittens in 1983: Beardsly, Attenborough, and TouTou. I was 2 at the time. My kitten was TouTou. I grew up in the forest, so letting cats outside at night was risky. There is a certain breed of cat, the Topanga cat. It's not a real breed, it just means that your cat has descended from a long pedigree of survival cat. Beardsly and brothers, were survival cats. They lasted pretty long as far as a Topanga cat goes. However, one night, the kittens didn't come in and 2 were left for dead. The owls in Topanga are cougar-sized too. Beardsly was found in the morning clinging for dear life to the top ledge that framed the outside screen door. He survived. He continued to survive for 18 more years. He was amazing.
I will never be able to stomach getting another cat, in fear that it couldn't, ever, compare.

Top 2, Because No One Likes Coming in Third

OK, I know it's trite, but I have to share my top 2 albums of 2009.

Numero Uno
Eagle Twin: The Unkindness of Crows

sexietime

This album will knock your socks off, melt your face, and blow your dress up, all at once. Gentry Densley's druid marching, fluid river, mountain of sound guitar will have you mesmerized. It will leave you wondering how the fuck all of that is coming from one, ONE, guitar. Fuck you Jack White. Tyler Smith's drumming makes one wonder how the hell a head survives one session. It's pounding, it's horrific, it's amazing. It's heavy, it's creamy, it's like a fucking jello pie in the face. They toured with Sunn O))), yeah.

And, for an exactitude of entertainment, read this.

Numero Dos
Mount Eerie: Wind's Poem

sexietime

Phil Elverum has this whispering gesture of a voice. Ethereal, unjust, haunting, he often shrouds this voice behind a veil of noisy guitar and buzz, but when it finds a moth hole, it glimmers in your ears like bright snow. It's a great album. "Between Two Mysteries" (click here to listen) is a song, more clear than others and I swear the background music sounds like background music from Twin Peaks, which would perfectly suit the look and feel of the album.

You can read a "real" review here.

And here are the lyrics to the song, "My Heart is Not at Peace"

if my heart were at peace
would it be a blossom?
or, satisfied, would it be a stone?
my heart is not at peace.
I woke up hungry.
there is wind but there's no song.
a satisfied heart,
half sleeping through the days
in the wind, in the home.
if my heart were at peace
I would have closed the doors and windows.
satisfaction feels like a tomb.
I was writhing in the tomb
my heart a frozen boulder
the "romance" and all I'd rejected
comes like music on the wind.
the violence in my heart,
the stone in the mountain,
all destroyed by the burning wind
all revealed by the sweeping broom

AAAANDDDD, because I can't call it third, I'll call it a bonus gem. Drum Roll plez....

The Bonus Gem
Jacuzzi Boys: No Seasons

sexietime

The cover art looks a lot like an Old Time Relijun poster I have. Anyway, this album kicks major ass. Iggy Pop even said so. I believe him, wholeheartedly.

AAAAAANNDD, one more....

Don't forget about Marco Benevento. He's amazing. Serious jazz, pop, indie greatness.

pleasantly caving in, i come undone

started taking pictures of myself again. why not. i like being able to look back and remember what was going on. for some reason, the visual clue of what i was wearing makes a huge impact on my memory. plus, i like to look back and think, what the fuck was i wearing?
and, it's a new year, after all. hopefully, this one will be filled with life and not death.

Two Bananas, One Walk

Which reminds me of a certain someone who once told me, that because of Mario Kart, she almost swerves every time she sees a banana peel on the highway.

Say Hello to My Little Friend

sexietime

I have the 1967 version of this very lens. It's one of the hardest damn lenses to focus, especially and entirely in the dark. I knew it was time. I needed my favorite lens in auto-focus. It's magnificent. It's my favorite of favorites. I love it even more than my coveted 24-70 2.8 lens.

Nikon, I love you.

Also, yes. I got the Artspace apartment! Yessss.

Can't Hardly Wait

sexietime

The Knife with Mt. Sims and Planningtorock. It's an Opera about Darwin. ? Fucking exciting.
