Because the Music Seems Endless

My brain has become wormhole-like, a never ending jump from lives past to present, to yesterday, tomorrow, and somewhere in between. I cant' even recall which albums came out this year or last, or shit - 1970 for all that I've cared this year. However, I know there have been some kick ass albums to come out this year - I just can't keep them all straight. So, instead of years past when I could recall, almost by week, which albums surfaced on whichever Tuesday of the month (thanks to the industry I was in), I leave you with Pitchfork's Top 50 of 2008. Go do the world a favor and buy a record form a local music shop - you'll feel warm and fuzzy and so will the shop owner.

Synergistic Wisdom of Life Paths

I'm so glad that Todd Selby did a piece on Guy Blakeslee (of the band Entrance) and Maximilla Lukacs (film maker). Their place is so earthy and great.

What Were You Doing in 1990?

Well, Laura Marling was busy being born. She's pretty sweet. She's like 1 part Joni Mitchell and 1 part Chan Marshall and 1 part her own. I'm such a sucker for a simple riff. She makes me want some bangs too; well, that and my apparent onset of adult acne.

SHUT UP!

These two people couldn't get much cuter. I hope them a happy life after-ever. Cheers to the engagement of Zooey Deschanel and Ben Gibbard. Ok, this is the last time I care about celebrities and gooshy indie-rock love stories.

Black and Cream

Jody was telling me that she had this dream of a long cream cardigan, a big bow around her waist, and the rest black. I conjured this up around all that.

I really love Limi Feu's Spring '09 Collection. Remember the hair headphones? Yeah - that was her too.

Six Random Things

Mrs. Brown tagged me up to answer this little ditty - so here goes.

  1. I HATE the long hallway awkward stare-down. I work in an office with some desperately long halls and I hate that awkward do-i-look-do-i-smile-head-down-push-on feeling when approaching someone in the hallway. Hate it.

  2. I pretty much NEVER wear a seat-belt. Unless someone else is driving and they give me reason to be concerned with my safety. And, in addition, I know they have probably saved many lives, but I hate the idea of car seats. I never had one and here I am. However, I'm certain that if I had kids they'd be strapped into a padded chamber strong enough to withstand a nuclear blast in the car.

  3. I really detest the whole "my little dog is my accessory" bullshit. Not all dogs are created equal these days. Why can your goopey-eyed, ribbon and sweater toting, curly haired puggle ride on the fucking plane and I can't buy my lovely dog a seat? NO, my "real dog" has to ride an undetermined life or death travel experience in the luggage section probably thrown in beside your louis vuitton fucking doggie diaper bag.*

  4. ok, so i don't want this to be about all the things i detest...
  5. I love buying music from record shops. I will curse iTunes, Amazon, etc. Music has turned into background music everywhere. It doesn't seem like something people actually enjoy these days. Vinyl is the path to the heart and soul. I wrote something pertaining to this...I'll have to try and dig it up.

  6. I love having a cold face. Not the kind that leers and sneers, but a physical and literal cold face. I hate summer. I love winter. I love being bundled up and everythign is toasty besides a physical and literal cold face. Which goes along with loving all things winter. I love that I have a January birthday. However, that means, somewhere, below the equator, I have a summer loving doppelganger.

  7. Snoop Dogg's "Doggystyle" album is in my top 5 albums of all time.

*I really love all creatures, so I don't really hate little dogs, I just mostly detest the owners who carry that holier than thou attitude along with their little polly pocket dog. Also, I'm just jealous that Solo can't transform into a 5lb creature at the wink of an eye. So, I think the solution is to call little dogs something else. Equine has it right by classifying the smaller breeds as "PONY". There should be a small dog equivalent. Peace love and Wilderness.

Leave it to the State of Utah to Predict the Future

You know, religious beliefs set aside - Utah has got to have one of the highest concentrations of crazy in the nation. However, I suppose when the popular religion was founded by a desperate and destitute man with an entrepreneurial itch looking into stones that lead him to some gold plates. . . can you really blame the offshoots?

My first ever portrait commission. Oil on panel. 18"x24"

I love this piece by Hanako Narahira. I saw this on the UO blog and checked out her collection. I can't say I'm an all around fan, but I think her designs are innovated and quirky and I can see where this could go. Some of the designs are a little too applique or flowery for me. I am mostly drawn to the abstract geometric designs.

Girl Crush: Nieves Rebolledo Vila aka Bebé

sexietime

sexietime

Bebé is Spanish and she rules. This song always makes me feel like crying. Also, I was about to post the live version of the song below, but I didn't because the quality wasn't as good. However, I must note she is wearing a "Nunca Mais" shirt during her live performance. Nunca Mais is a movement of Galician (the furthest north-eastern state of Spain) peoples in response to a disaster that happened upon their gorgeous coast line. The Prestige was a Grecian oil tanker that sank in 2002 off the coast of Galicia, spilling enough oil to contaminate thousands of miles of coast line from Spain to France and almost killing the fishing industry that supports the states along the coast. I lived in Spain in 2004 and, believe me, the fight to end the governement's lack approach toward cleaning up and handling of the disaster was still in full force.

"More than eighty per cent of the tanker's 77,000 tons of fuel oil is now thought to have been spilled off Spain's north-west coast."

Holy shit.

Back to Bebé. She´s awesome.
