On Voting

I voted early yesterday; I can say it felt good to know that I made my choice and I hope more young people get out there and vote. I don't think young people realize how important it is and how we have to combat all the people 65+ that vote from home, staunch in their ways, and end up making the largest impact. It really shocks me back into reality when I hear young people like the ones that were behind me in the early voting queue. They were young, in college (I was at the university polling location), and talking about that the states should fix the gas crisis and that if they could have voted, they would have voted for Bush. Firstly, I don't know how anyone could say that they would have voted for bush....really?!

On McCain being a "Maverick" and about how people stress that he's a great candidate because he has voted against his party. I see it like this: Perhaps McCain is a little more intelligent than the rest of his party, therefore, I think it's a no brainer to go against most Republican proposals. It's like sparing a life in a mob of people pro murder. OK, I know that analogy is a little extreme, but my point is this: It is easier to vote against your party (the Republican Party) because, it is mostly full of anti-human ideals.

The fact that Sarah Palin could be president should be enough to scare off anyone with a slice of brain.

Anyway, here is a cool photo I got off My Favorite Color is Shiny:

I'm Sorry

To everyone on Tuesday night who was subjugated to my horrendous karaoke performances, you heard - plural. In tribute, and in condolence, here is Shara Worden from My Brightest Diamond singing some kick ass hilarious karaoke:

October 16: Corporate Rock n Roll

so, I saw these Anne Klein leopard print heels at the DI (utah thrift chain run by the lds church, anyway...) and thought, "where have I seen these before?" It didn't matter, they were my size and I was sold. $4 later I had some bitchin' heels. Then, I move close to my mother and I go over to her house and on mother's day my sister and I raid her closet, and what do I find, neatly stashed in the original shoe box (my mother is the most organized closet keeper)? The same exact heels, save for that my mother has a tiny 6.5 shoe and I have an 8.5. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree is all I've got to say. I love the image of my mother walking her fast fast walk through the streets of nyc and china in the late 1980s in the very same heels.

October 15: Yes Please!

Today had perfect weather. I wish there were some clouds, but hey, you cant' have everything. Just pieces of everything; eventually we all end up with our everything. I'm sure of it.

Which also brings me full circle back to this morning. I was thinking about the law of averages and wondering if people all had different ratios. Like, maybe nothing really really great or really really bad will ever happen to me. Or maybe something really really bad will happen and then sort of good things will happen over a more gradual time period.

Oh, How Sad

This photo makes me hate every stitch of fashion:

And, however sad, I still want those goddamn boots.

Girl Crush

I seem to have a lot of these lately. I love Neko Case. Her red hair, that throaty boastful and plentiful voice. And, As was the case with Emily Haines, I much prefer the solo Neko Case to the New Pornographers.

Love/Hate

So, here's a fun game I just made up in order to procrastinate more: go to flickr and search for 3 things you hate and 3 things you love and post the pictures.

Sometimes Mainstream is OK

I've always liked Mastodon, and probably always will. One of the reasons I like Mastodon, other than their shredding, is that they don't hop back into their van/bus/whatever after the show - they stick around and party.

And, if you live in England:

Nothign screams fun more that Mike Patton and the Melvins curating a show.

This one takes a minute to warm up - but when it does, it's worth it. This is Shearwater performing their song, "La Dame Et La Licorne."

Something about this angle makes me super stumpy. I can't wait to get my tri-pod in the mail.

Hair-rraay!

Today I had brunch with the lovely Petersen duo, Stephanie and Steven. I'm going to be taking some photos for their salon and I'm very excited about it. Steven put some warm lifts in my hair and blow dried it and boy is it lovely.

Muxtape Update

sexietime

Justin Ouellette, creator of Muxtape, has posted a very nice piece all about Muxtape. I look forward to its return, but I am also saddened that it will, most definitely, be very different. It's also a perfect example of free marketplace vs. regulation vs. deregulation vs. capitol gain vs. artistic outreach vs. us vs. them. I'll get into that later.

Teal and Slate: Lovers in My Book

This is from the Vivienne Westwood Gold Label S/S 09. I LOVE that washy, limestoney, greyish, greenish color paired with that translucent aqua, teal, sea color. Perfect. Like Home.

Junk Mail Prophets

Who (what) are these writers! Expose yourself or your software! So poetic beneath the misspellings of varieties of erection medications and promises of fornication.

Halloween and Horses

I knew I could make this post more topical than just in a fashion sense. Here is my gripe: QUIT TRYING TO LOOK LIKE YOU RIDE EQUESTRIAN!!!!

OK. Now that I've got that off my chest, I can come back around. I love the equestrian look. It has been a part of my life, not just a part, but my entire life. I started riding when I was 4. I've broken in those boots numerous times (bleeding blisters on the backs of your knees...yeah not so appealing anymore, eh?). I do not wear my field boots to the bar or to work or to go shopping. I understand that this has always happened in the western wear world. Fashion people, regular people, and caballeros alike, wear cowboy boots. I just really can't stand this influx of equestrian rip offs. It's not just the occasional strap detail or jodhpurs on the runway these days; it's EVERYONE.

Here's my advice: spend a quarter century of your life in a saddle or in an actual pair of riding boots and you'd have too much respect for the sport and yourself to wear such atrocities outside of the arena.

Here is "Physical Graffiti" (Artax) and Me as Little Red Riding Hood and The Wolf dressed as Granny, Halloween 1995:

P.S. I, of course am a terrible hypocrite and have worn my paddock boots outside in the world. Someone spank me with a crop - quick:

Also, I appropriately wear my cowboy boots too (tucked in style aside):

Can You Hair Me?

I think I'm intrigued; I think I love it. It is part of Limi Feu S/S 09 collection. So freakishly awesome. I totally want a pair of blonde headphones, or maybe ginger. I don't know so much about wearing them in the summer, more of a spring/fall sort of thing.

Style Inspirations

I'm not looking to reinvent the wheel. I'm looking for a good Brasso or a good Putz to put on my life, so to speak. I've always adhered to the rock/punk sensibility of style. Sometimes I think working my day job muddies my head with corporate dress codes and not that I'm not my own person, sometimes it's just that sometimes while you swim in the ocean, the tide pulls you out and you don't realize how far out you've gone until you stop and look to shore. Right now I'm looking at the shore and wondering how to get back to my stuff, my towel, my umbrella.

Some may be old, some boring, some contrite, some may be a bit pretentious, however, I need some rejuvenation of my tried & true fashinspirations. And, I'd say most are style-spirations; I doubt many of the people below had stylists. There's only one person below directly involved in "fashion". I'm sure there will be more to come, but for now:

Strange Form of Life

I don't think there is a single song on earth that can make me feel so desperate, so alone, so complete, so together, so warm, so distant (like i've found my own universe), than this one:

Bonnie 'Prince' Billy - Strange Form of Life - song will play in new window

this line makes my skin crawl:

smiling and waiting
to bend down and kiss twice

I Buy My Friends

My new friends (that I bought off ebay):

Purchase #1:
sexietime
I've been not only wanting a tripod for ages. I've needed one so desperately that, once I was stoned and shopping at the local thrift joint (ha, excuse the pun) and found two tripods made in the 50s (I'd presume), in perfect condition, and while I unpacked other useless items into the car, forgot them in the cart and drove away...

Purchase #2:
sexietime
I've always kept the mystical, sensory, and intuitive creature that I am on a tight leash of reason and science my whole life, but lately I've found a real urge to get really into the unknown. The gypsy in me is becoming me.
