August 28: Happy Birthday JODY!!!

So, it's my bestest friend's birthday today. I think she's river rafting or something. God Speed. We've been friends since forever. There was only a brief lapse in our friendship: I freaked out and moved to Montana, she freaked out and hung out with ravers. I love this lady more than anything. Her tribal name is "Walking Whale". I say, wherever you may roam. Here's a collection of her beauty.

August 27: I Fell Asleep

I fell asleep before a sexie time! shot could be taken. I was asleep around 6pm. New schedules really throw me for a loop.

I was wearing cut off black slacks, a silk thirfted Izod shirt, and jack purcells. It looked a little bit like this:

L'histoire de la Photographie

It sounds so much more fun en français. Tonight this is the class i have. I am actually quite excited about it. Apart from the shit images you see mainly on this blog in the form of the crap I wear everyday. I very much so love the photographic process and the art of it. I denounced the use of a digital camera for quite some time and I dearly miss the smell of fixer. Even in the dark I could spot the person responsible for not properly using tongs, and thus, clouding up the fixer in the dark room. My mother always had dreams of me being a photojournalist. However, the only subject I wasn't too scared to approach was and has always been myself. In ode to my class tonight, I give you a brief showcase of some of my favorite photographers (there are too many to mention):

P.S.
Heather, I had a dream the pigeon on my fire escape swallowed you whole. I gave you my hand and pulled you free. Then I was at a bus stop asking if the #4 had gone by and a woman and her 9 year old cross dressing daughter were at the stop.

August 20: Happy Birthday Bice

sexietime

Today is the birthday of one of my dearest friends, Adam Bice. Bice used to like to put me in choke holds on the lawn in high school. I was like "one of the guys" growing up. Adam is a great guy.

Here's Jody and Bice discussing the labeling of party cups:

It's One Thing to Have Complex Shit, It's Another When It Breaks Free

A fellow student of the University of Utah art department, artist Paul McCarthy had a large inflatable sculpture of a pile of shit titled, "Complex Shit" as part of a display of the Paul Klee Center in Bern, Switzerland. It got loose, took down a power line, broke a window and found its new home on the lawn of a children's home. Way to tear shit up. I love the visual of a bunch of kids out on the lawn pointing and playing in a mess of inflatable turd.

Rage Against the RIAA

sexietime

I have been a fan of muxtape for a while now. I login in, listen to other people's randon mixes and the day ends and I go home. Sometimes though, I make a detour to my local music shop. Why? Usually I've stumbled across something I liked on someone's muxtape. Without muxtape, I'd say my consumption of music would also decline. Where the fuck is freedom these days? I sure can't find it. Read this article and hate the RIAA too.

I'd also like to say that I love to protect the rights of musical artists and artists in general, hell, I'm one of them, but there are villages being burned when the war is in the capitol.

It Ain't Easy Bein' Green

sexietime

This post could go on for pages and pages. However, the topic of being "green" keeps coming up everywhere. My work, just like the rest of America is trying its best to go "green". It's great and gross at the same time. Being "green" has become a sick marketing ploy and it's making me sick in turn. While I agree that awareness and introspection are key in becoming more responsible people in this world, something is wrong. Companies, people, consumers, are throwing the baby out with the bathwater in a scamper toward being "green". So green in fact that soon the new green will be neon toxic. Being green is now at the level of diet and low fat things. I say this in the sense that when diet and fat free alternatives hit the market, everyone jumped aboard denouncing butter and fat and no one gave notice to the fact that they were now ingesting heavily processed and chemically altered substances. A similar epidemic is happening in the clothing and building materials markets. No one is paying attention to the process of things, only the end result. It's sort of like the "final product not tested on animals" but when one breaks it down, every piece of it has been tested on something living.

Bamboo is a big one. Yes, bamboo, by nature, is a sustainable and renewable source. It's a grass, it grows without having to be replanted and it regenerates it's growth in just about 3 years, when compared to a tree that takes decades to mature and then to cut it down and have to plant elsewhere, sure it seems like a no brainer that bamboo is wonderful alternative. However, the problem is that since being "green" is of such high demand, old growth tree forests are being cleared to plant bamboo. pesticides are being used to increase crop growth and it's all in the name of consumerism. The biggest problem isn't building with bamboo, it's the chemically altering process of bamboo to get fabric fibers that's the real killer. No one seems to care if the process to obtain a usable fabric fiber from bamboo is worse for the environment as long as it has a pretty green tag on it and makes the heart feel warm. I don't want to discourage bamboo as a flooring alternative; it is a sustainable material and much better than a hardwood. I just think people should really investigate its source.

My best friend has worked in the sustainable, eco-friendly, fashion market for years and she'll be the first one to tell you that it's like pulling teeth trying to find out which fiber manufacturers actually have a "green" process. I've witnessed a manufacturer of "recycled" fabric fibers straight-up tell her that he can't tell her which chemicals are used and emitted as a result of their recycling process. I've also seen the fact that a company can be the greenest in the bunch at the trade shows, but all a company has to do to prove that they're green is to buy the sign to put in front of their booth as a "green company." Being "green" is really just another "greenback" game.

Also something to consider when buying anything green - how green is it if it's being shipped from china? shipped from anywhere else in the world that's not close to home? Being "green" isn't about recycling and drinking organic wines; being "green" is buying less, consuming less, leaving less of a trace; it's riding a bicycle, it's taking responsibilities for one's existence. I know it's hard. I struggle everyday to make better choices. Being aware of your actions is the first step. I know that I'm not the "greenest" person on the planet, but I'm not claiming it either. All we can do is try. I'm not trying to be a hater of people trying to make little differences in their lifestyle - hell, it's just the opposite. I just think people aren't getting the whole truth about being "green" and it's not the fault of the people, it's the fault of the companies. I don't want to be negative because the last thing this world needs is negative energy. I am simply trying to understand the whole landscape of the painting in a world that likes to show only pieces of a time and never in the same order as before; like a never ending game of memory. Here I am, just like you, trying my best.

August 19: Blurry with Sharp Results

Spreading the Love, Spreading the Words, Connecting the Worlds

I am a huge advocate for the manifestation of one's reality. I truly believe that what one feels inside creates a manifestation in physical form on the outside. Kant and his theories of transcendental idealism and the experience of perception ring true to me in this context. In relation to this sort of thinking, I believe that anything is possible as long as we retain the power to change our perceptions of our experiences. Anyway, I came across this story told by fellow blogger Ginny Branch (My Favorite Color is Shiny). I don't know how it was I came across her blog in the first place, but she seems to exude happiness and you'll see why by reading this post of hers.

Tonight was Levi and Carrie's wedding reception party. It was good times. I can't believe I didn't snap a photo of the bride and groom - wtf. I wore a blue floral dress I've worn before; sexie time! is really disappointing lately. . .
