Every time Spring rolls around, I feel this yearning for pop inspired dance jams. This Little Boots song is on repeat in my head. Find the Fred Falke remix and be thouroughly enjoyed.
and this is the ultimate SS09 dance jam (Handsome Furs "I'm Confused") plus, the video rules, even if the keyboardist gives me the creeps.
I Don't Have a lot of Money but I'll Show You a Good Time
Back to the Library They Go
Charles SImic is a great poet, poet laureate, in fact. Pulitzer prize winner. I caught up on some of his works. This is my favorite from what I checked out:
My Noiseless Entourage
We were never formally introduced.
I had no idea of their number.
It was like a discreet entourage
Of homegrown angels and demons
All of whom I had met before
And had since largely forgotten.
In time of danger, they made themselves scarce.
Where did they all vanish to?
I asked some felon one night
While he held a knife to my throat,
But he was spooked too,
Letting me go without a word.
It was disconcerting, downright frightening
To be reminded of one’s solitude,
Like opening a children’s book—
With nothing better to do—reading about stars,
How they can afford to spend centuries
Traveling our way on a glint of light.
Can't Get it Right

I am pretty sure I rearrange my apartment once a week. I think it's because I hate it so much. Nothing makes it better. It's like putting shit on ice cream: no matter what you do, it will still taste like shit. Really, I'm just procrastinating on going up to the print shop. Also, I came from sunny California to Snowy Utah. It had snowed about a foot and a half over night. Lovely. Bundle. Breathe. Enjoy it while it lasts.
All Together Now!
What an interesting travel experience. First off, I gave up my seat on the flight I was suppose to take on Thursday night for a 6am flight on Friday, had my flight paid for plus $200 more. So, I get to the airport and automatically I smell danger by the sight of dozens of teens wearing matching t-shirts. Shit. Group trip, on my 6am flight. All save for myself and a handful of other regular passengers, the plane is packed with geek hormone, eau d'hyper, Riverton High School Choir and A cappella group. I instantly want to shut down, read my magazine, pretend to be the biggest bitch on the planet. Zealous youth happens, as I learn, to be undeniable. Within moments, the cabin is like a lunch time parade. The flight attendants are letting kids throw packets of peanuts, kids are singing, it's chaos. It's some girl's birthday, the lights shut off all the call lights light up and the flight attendant marches down the aisle with a toilet paper and coffee stirrer cake. It was a good time.
Then, it's my return flight, and who is on it? A high school cheer leading squad. Oh the luck....
Anyway, here are some photos from the weekend. Apparently, my 6 year old niece is really into vampires and tried to look like one all weekend.

Through the Looking Glass

Finally, all of the long nights (turned mornings) have paid off. Here is my latest print. It's a 4 color separation with 3 layers of other stuff between. 7 layers. 7 heartaches. 7 reasons to be proud. 7 ways to love one's self.
Armez les Français

I figured, I'm about 1/4 french and that I should embrace that today. So, I wore stripes, took a nap, drank a fancy drink, wore red lipstick, played some guitar, you know, I harnessed my inner Françoise Hardy. However, the french bits stop there. I switch to my all-american roots with the boss. Thunder Road might be a contender for the best song ever written.
which leads me to this:
On Belay!
Adam and I had an amazing start to the climbing season. We climbed "Hand Jive" a nice 2 pitch trad crack route in Little Cottonwood Canyon. The weather was perfect, the rock was amazing, and a German guy farted at the top of the 1st pitch while I was just getting to this bulge on the 2nd pitch and I laughed so hard I jammed my hand. Good times. I even got a sun tan. Hot damn! Afterward we rewarded ourselves with garlic burgers and beers from the Cotton Bottom, a local biker bar that also happens to dish up some amazing burgers. Spring is starting out pretty nice, I must say.

Bah HAHAHAHA

I thought this was hilarious. However, who the hell is turned on by this sort of pose? I'm baffled. Also, that's just how you tell how old a horse is - but I can see the meaning being bent for the sake of laughs. Shit, I'll bend almost anything to get a laugh. Almost.
A Day in the Life

So much has changed over the course of a year. Who knew. Different as in, well, everything. Life, living, moving, states, between your arms and their arms and everyone else´s arms. From California and the rest of the states' cliché. Acquisitions and loss. Loss beyond words. Enumerable losses so big that money doesn´t matter and no measure of love could fix it. Self preservation. Self Exposure. Expanded art. Support. People, friends, and what family left. Subversive pity. Transfer of love. New friends. Birds. That line from that movie, ¨La vie peut parfois être triste, mais elle est toujours belle.¨ The smell, the taste, the light of a hospital. Of a hospital bed. To actually saying a last goodbye. To birthdays and to the evil circle of cycles. To welcoming the New Year on a wooden floor. Everything I cherished seems to be held in retrospect. Rejuvenation. I will not explain myself. Learning to punctuate my face. Sometimes the smallest army is the strongest.
Have Your Mind Blown
Sometimes I forget to show off my talented friends...Not today. If you're attending SXSW, you have to go to Emo's on Friday and see/hear/experience Eagle Twin. They are two. They are many. They are one. They are Eagle Twin.
Gentry and Tyler and musical greatness without compromise. Tyler hits his drums harder than anyone else I know. Gentry is a magician with an axe. Check out Curtis' interviews with them, they are also funny as hell.

I tried to post a photo of tyler at the drums, but it would have rocked the internet too hard. However, it appears that he is rockin' the socks off of Stohl*. *dude in background.
I'm Obsessed
You know, why didn't I think to scan food when I was busy scanning my face?! Scanwiches...genius. Now, that's genius.
J'adore Coco
So, back when I heard Miss Tatou would play Coco, I was so excited! I think the film comes out in April, but I'm not sure.
Excúseme si usted no entiende francés. That is totally a joke.
Genius Status Temporarily Revoked
I know, I shouldn't count my eggs before they hatch. I realized, as I put my headphones on this morning, that I recorded my albums on stereo when they were coming out on mono. Bummer. One side is super loud, the other, not so much.
Here, I'll distract you from my ineptitude with a picture of Fletcher.
I'm a Goddamn Genius

So, I'm pretty nerdy when it comes to technical things. I was the kid that had to make all of the electronics work. I was the one rigging a super duper sound system in my car when I was 16. I am the one to bring your broken ipod to. Whatever the reason be, electronics and I get along. Maybe it's a certain magnetic energy in my brain, who knows. However, the electrical outlets in my apartment hate me, go figure. So, what sounds like more fun than figuring out how to rip my vinyl into mp3? Ha. I spent my entire Sunday converting my vinyl into mp3. Riveting. Also, fuck that douche bag, ex DJ, washup from Radio Shack who sold me some shit I didn't even need. You know, sometimes I wonder why I even bother to ask questions; I usually already know the answers, but I'm a fairly humble person.
Here's one of my favorite Billy Childish Songs. Actually, it's Thee Headcoats (right click to download, or just open and enjoy):
Thee Headcoats - I'm Hurtin (mp3)
(what's especially cool is that this is straight from my record player to your ears. and what's so cool about that, you ask? it's fucking authentic; each blip, each static waver, is exactly what i hear, and i'm here to share it with you. now, that's something itunes can't do)

There are Some Things You Never Knew You'd Need Until You Set Eyes on Them

Holy Shit. Crochet, wait for it....ROCKS! I love it. Go to Knitalatte's Etsy shop and be surprised.
Un-Rave Review
I usually like to gush about things I love around here, but today I am pissed. I am so dissatisfied by a recent mascara purchase that I have to rant. First off, I usually buy Lancome or Chanel mascara. Chanel mascara is the best damn thing on the planet and Lancome's Defincils gives me the awesome big lash I love.
So, I'm at the mac counter getting some stuff from a friend that works there. I really need some mascara and I didn't want to make him walk all the way over to the Lancome counter for some mascara, so I tell him that MAC mascara should work. Wrong. It's the worst shit I've ever tried. It's clumpy, the brush is tiny, it's a fucking train wreck.
Chanel, Yes.
Mac, No.
You'll Never Know What Good Times are to be Had When Cleaning the Car
I'm glad I found this cd under the seat of my car today. Sometimes what you need in life is some good fun - this cd reminds me of getting in trouble for listening to my headphones during class in junior high.
Live and Let Die
As I was leaving to go to work I look up, and this is what I see: Some sort of falcon or hawk (i think) devouring a pigeon. Which, is sort of ok in my book, since the fuckers congregate on my fire escape and wake me up with their cooing noises at 8am on weekends. This is the second bird of prey I've seen at my building. I find it humorous that the building is called the Swallow, yet, I've never seen one of those here.

*NOTE! Someone told me that the type of bird here is a Cooper's Hawk. God Bless the bird watchers of America!
Snake Toe Meet Cat Woman
Giovanna and Emmanuelle. Hello. I am in love with these two silhouettes. I feel like these two looks closely resemble the looks I go for. Save for that my snake print pants aren't half as cool and came from a sale rack for $13 and all of my cat-print coats are vintage. However, I guess the pants are from Top Shop!? Who would have thunk it... Go see
Garance for she is who from these images came.

Good God
This is the most amazing Jewelry website I've ever seen. It might be one of the coolest internet experiences I've had. Bravo to the site designer. Bravo. Click on the images below to enter. (you've got to visit it with sound)

Don't Fuck with the Land Pirate

Hahahah....So, I saw this on Greg's blog and thought I'd give it a go. Super Hero Me! The application doesn't give you the option to wield an inner thigh knife - so, being of the nature kind, I chose to fight with a walking stick.
There is Mystery in Everything and for that, Everything is Beautiful

everything is relative to its perceived perception of reality.
learning the value of speaking in circles.
White in Hysterics

I love these pants. I need these pants. They are look #2 from Madewell, click here.
Lunch with Randal
So, as many of you know, my mother passed away. We finally held a funeral service. It was very nice and we all had lunch afterward to celebrate her. Momma Randal really loved lunch and taking her time with good food and good company. At her service, this is the poem I read. So, I'll share it with all of you; it's ee cummings, naturally:
here is the ocean, this is moonlight:say
that both precisely beyond either were—
so in darkness ourselves go,mind in mind
which is the thrilling least of all(for love’s
secret supremely clothes herself with day)
i mean, should any curious dawn discuss
our mingling spirits,you would disappear
unreally;as this planet(understand)
forgets the entire and perpetual sea
—but if yourself consider wonderful
that your(how luminous)life toward twilight will
dissolve reintegrate beckon through me,
i think it is less wonderful than this
only by you my heart always moves

The Birth of Heavy Feather
Birds of a feather flock together is damn right! We had a lovely dinner for Heather's Bday, followed by drinks and good times. Caution: Gratuitous Photo Post Ahead.
