Susie Bubble posted about TÔ Long-Nam and I fell in love. I would kill to wear ensembles like the ones above everyday. Look at the detail on the pant. Hot Damn. I'm speechless.

April 29: Part II
Before:
After:
I got a haircut today! I love hair cuts. Steven Petersen of Dexterity Salon is a master. If you are ever in need of a hair-do while in Salt Lake, go see Steven. Or, I'm sure he'd love to fly out to your city and cut your hair and party on your yacht, or something like that too. Anyway, I feel 10x better. And, since today is my sister's birthday, I wore my tie-dye jumpsuit since she is the one who taught me how while she was dragging me to Grateful Dead concerts when I was 7.
April 29: Happy Birthday Alexandra!
Happy Birthday Big Sis!!!! Today is my big sister's birthday. I won't disclose her age, however, let's just say I'm the baby in the family. Alexandra is gorgeous, smart, funny as hell, passionate, and has been the best sister a girl could ask for. I love her and she's almost all I've got these days. Oh, and she can juggle knives.

This was my Alex dedication from last year....click here.
Aids Benedict with a Side of Swine Flu
So, I'm fairly certain that the "Swine Flu" is really an STD contracted by Spring Breakers partying a little too hard. Just thought I'd put that out there so I could say I-told-you-so in a few months.
One Day the World Will Give Me a Dapple Grey

i'm having a hard time breathing today. like the cliché - the weight of the world on my chest, save for that it's not the world, it's my world. trying to figure out what parts i've created and which parts would always be there. realizing that there is no one to talk to besides a typewriter. beyond friends, beyond animals, beyond prescriptions beyond self medication. it's the abyss. it's what makes you want to run. if these legs could carry to me to the cityscapes in movies, to the lyrics of bruce springsteen songs, to the transfer of feelings from the passing of strangers. so sensitive you become numb. i could graze my hands through a field of wheat and feel each grain.
* if one clicks on the image above - a song will play to force your heart into palpations.
April 24: Because I Love, Today.

One's dead - the other is being put to bed. To rest amidst the new bulbs of Spring shooting their stems at the sky. Hoping to blind us. Lovers let your atrocities lie. We are here for now. You and I. I am sunken like the soil. I'd like to live in a town where I shout my name and the rain answers back.
They'll Sharpen Their Teeth on Your Smile

Here is a little bit of William Carlos Williams for your Friday:
"Libertad! Igualdad! Fraternidad!"
You sullen pig of a man
you force me into the mud
with your stinking ash-cart!
Brother!
--if we were rich
we'd stick our chests out
and hold our heads high!
It is dreams that have destroyed us.
There is no more pride
in horses or in rein holding.
We sit hunched together brooding
our fate.
Well--
all things turn bitter in the end
whether you choose the right or
the left way
and--
dreams are not a bad thing.
Preparing Takes a Step: Whether its in the Right Direction is Implied by its Intention

Blink. I see a glass. a bottle. a frame. a photograph. you're in it.
I blink. Tears. And then, a forced smile and then back:
frame
glass
photograph
smile
those thoughts pass.
And then, nothing. then, everything at once.
And that's what's overwhelming, most of all. The feeling of nothing because anyone knows - that's everything you are.
Everything. Because when your body turned to nothing - that's the instant in which you meant everything.
Amazing Spirits

I saw this for the first time today and teared up.
Eagle Twin and Things

Eagle Twin played a free set at local record shop, Slowtrain. It was loud and good. I got to hang out with some friends I haven't seen in a while, ate pizza, drank stiff vodka drinks, had more people than I've ever had in my apartment at one time, good times.
Daniel is Danielle
I love songs named after myself. This is the new Bat for Lashes video for their single, "Daniel". So, here's the story about my name:
My birth was a bit of a nightmare. Cords wrapped, I didn't want to come out, my mom was 40, my dad was working as a truck driver driving valuable art from LAX to the J Paul Getty museum; he couldn't leave in the middle of a run (who knows maybe there was a Degas in the back or something). My mom went into labor unexpectedly, had to get the neighbor to drive her the 25 minute drive from the canyon to Santa Monica Hospital. Basically, everyone was in a panic. I had be delivered via C-Section. I died, my mom died, her watched stopped the minute I was born. We all ended up living. Point being, no one was paying very close attention to the birth certificate. They told them my name was to be Daniela Phyllis Mariott. What came through was Daniele Phyllis Mariott. No one cared and I've been Danielle ever since. For some reason they thought it would be easier for me to add an 'L' than it would be to change the 'E' to an 'A'. So, I'm, still, technically named Daniele.

Thank You for the Hospitality

We were rained out of a climbing adventure at one of the world's best climbing locations, but you can't win all of the time. We sought refuge in a cave.
Ibex or Bust

Tonight some friends and I are going to the west desert of Utah to camp/climb what is known, by few, as Ibex. Here is the google map of the location, pretty bleak:
Most interesting is the history of the area. It's been documented in a book called, Hiking, Climbing & Exploring Western Utah's Jack Watson's Ibex Country : The Life Stories of Jack Watson & Bob Stinson, History of Ibex, West Desert Sheepmen, ... Mountain Climbing and Fossil Hunting. If the title doesn't get you sucked in, maybe this description will help:
In addition to hiking & climbing, perhaps the most emphasis, at least page wise, is the life & times of a sheepman named Jack Watson. This author is related to Jack, by marriage, and after several years of begging, had the opportunity to copy Watson's 12 diaries which date from 1886. This was when Utah's sheep industry was in its infancy. In the end, Jack had a little store & hotel with post office, litterally in the middle of no where until 12/5/1935, when he crushed his hand in the gears of a BLM built well & pump, which was later amputated. His diary, plus interviews with other old timers who knew him, makes this the best account of Utah's sheep industry.
Also, this book has the life story of a locally-famous hermit named Bob Stinson who lived in a cave house; plus the history of the Antelope Spring & Painter Spring CCC camps built and operated during the 1930's--as told by the men who were there. Also included is the story of the dreadful winter of 1948-49, as told in one sheepman's diary. Western Millard County is also one of the premier fossil hunting areas in the world, and some of these sites and fossil hunting are discussed.
Even cooler than any of this is that Bob Stinson's cave is still intact and we're going to sleep in it! Doesn't anyone else think the term "famous hermit" is a little bit of a contradiction (and I love it all the more)? And, if I get sick of climbing, I'm going fossil hunting. Anyway, wish me luck!
Dreaming of...

Lagoon Day! Every year the company I work for pays for us to go to the local amusement park (Lagoon). It's the best day, ever. It's sort of like Free Pretzel Day of the Office.
My Ass is Famous!
I always knew Salt Lake City was in need of a good ass representation. And who better to recognize than GOOD magazine. They did a write up in their latest issue about up and coming bicycle-friendly cities, and lo and behold, we have SLC on the list. Check it.
My Friend Michelle, The Genius
I really have a talented group of friends. I am very fortunate to have led a life that enabled me to form amazing friendships with amazing people. Michelle Boucher is one of them. She made all sorts of costumes for a Fashion show for charity sponsored by the Lunatic Fringe Salon and the Paul Mitchell School (other people did designs too, but for all intent and purposes, we only care about Michelle!). Just click on a photo to be taken to the full set. It was stunning: her costumes, her dancers, everything. Also, Carmen and Heather helped dress all the performers and did an excellent job.

Hussein Chalayan Hinterview

Hint Magazine has a nice Interview with Fashion man, Hussein Chalayan, and current Creative Director of Puma. This was my favorite excerpt:
Hint: That comes through in your work. For me, and for a lot of people, the experience of watching your shows is very emotional.
Chalayan: Yes, because I am very emotional.
